The current application status is “Awaiting opposition filing deadline”, which means that the trademark application for Nintendo Game Boy is currently in the public opposition phase in Brazil. After a trademark application is published, Brazilian law allows a period (usually 60 days) during which other companies or individuals can formally oppose the registration and they can opt to argue that the trademark conflicts with their existing rights.

As for the device itself, it appears that Nintendo may be set to release a Game Boy Classic Edition handheld, with new features and a built-in software library. Only time will tell whether this is actually the case, however.

In related news, Nintendo added Virtual Boy Classics to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on February 17, 2026, bringing a curated selection of Virtual Boy titles to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. With an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, players can gain access to a growing library of Virtual Boy games playable on modern hardware. The service includes system-level features such as suspend points for saving progress, rewind functionality to correct mistakes, and customizable control options.

Seven Virtual Boy titles are currently available, Teleroboxer, Galactic Pinball, RED ALARM, GOLF, Virtual Boy Wario Land, 3-D TETRIS, and The Mansion of Innsmouth. These selections represent a mix of action, sports, puzzle, and pinball experiences from the original platform’s catalog. The console maker also confirmed that additional Virtual Boy titles will be released in the future, including Mario Clash, Mario’s Tennis, Jack Bros, Space Invaders, Virtual Collection, Virtual Bowling. Vertical Force, V-Tetris, Zero Racers, and D-Hopper.
