Nintendo Reveals Light Purple and Green Switch 2 Joy Con Colors

by Ali Haider

Nintendo has officially announced new color options for the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers, introducing Light Purple and Light Green variants scheduled to release on February 12, 2026. The announcement was made through the Nintendo Today app and marks the first new Joy-Con color set since the Switch 2 launched in June 2025. The new colors will arrive alongside the release of Mario Tennis Fever.

The Switch 2 initially launched on June 5, 2025, with Joy-Con options limited to Light Blue and Light Red, often referred to as Neon. Since launch, Nintendo has not expanded the controller color lineup, making the Light Purple and Light Green set a notable update for owners looking to customize their systems.

Nintendo Switch 2 has seen exceptional commercial performance since its release. The system became the fastest-selling console in Nintendo’s history, selling 3.5 million units within its first four days on the market. Momentum continued throughout the year, supported by a strong 2025 holiday season and the release of Mario Kart World, which contributed to sustained demand.

As of January 8, 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 has reached approximately 14.2 million units sold worldwide. This pace places it ahead of the early sales trajectories of both the original Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 5. In response to continued demand, Nintendo has revised its production targets upward, aiming to reach 20 million units sold by the end of the current fiscal year in March.

From a hardware perspective, the Switch 2 introduced several upgrades over its predecessor. The console features a larger 7.9-inch LCD display, enhanced magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers, and full backward compatibility with the existing Nintendo Switch software library. These changes helped position the system as an iterative but meaningful evolution rather than a radical redesign, which seems to be resonating with consumers.
