Nintendo Switch 2 Devkit Availability Situation Has Allegedly Been Resolved

by Muhammad Ali Bari

The situation of no devkit availability for the Nintendo Switch 2 has largely been resolved, according to a new rumor.

Known insider NateDrake (also known as Nate the Hate) took to the famiboards forums to corroborate a recent claim from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, according to which a devkit shortage is what led to a delay in the release of the first Nintendo Switch 2 Call of Duty title.

Nate’s post came in response to a fellow Famiboards member, who suggested that Activision’s apparent lack of a day-one Call of Duty release on Nintendo Switch 2 had more to do with internal Xbox cost-cutting and pipeline streamlining than hardware access. They argued that because Activision released Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 on Switch 2 shortly after the console’s launch, the company must have had devkits for a long time, implying other factors were at play.

In response, Nate clarified a common misconception that devkit access is not automatically universal across all teams at large publishers. According to him, a single Activision team having access to Switch 2 hardware does not mean every internal studio, including those responsible for the next Call of Duty title, had the same opportunity at the same time.

Nate further explained that the Call of Duty team did not necessarily receive devkits “super late,” but late enough to prevent a simultaneous launch with other platforms. He added that the devkit delivery situation has largely been resolved, suggesting that prior bottlenecks in Switch 2 devkit istribution are no longer a major hurdle.

These remarks align with Corden’s earlier comments on Twitter/X, in which he addressed the reason behind Call of Duty not launching day one on Switch 2 alongside other platforms, despite Microsoft’s public commitments. He mentioned that developers “need dev kits to port” and that they “didn’t have them.” He later added that the first Call of Duty release for Switch 2 is “nearly done” and expected to launch within a few months.
