The Nintendo Switch 2 has reached lifetime sales of more than 3 million units in Japan just 27 weeks after launch.
Twitter/X user pierre485_, who follows sales data on video games, has shared that the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 3.172 million units in Japan after 27 weeks of being available on the local market. This effectively makes it the best-selling console in the country, ahead of the Game Boy Advance, which sold 3.171 million units, and the PS2, which sold 3.112 million units, launch aligned.
As seen in the chart above, the Nintendo Switch 2’s sales milestone in Japan also means that the console’s sales are more than double those of the original Nintendo Switch during the same time frame. It’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch 2 is also the best-selling console in the country in terms of week 1 sales. Furthermore, during week 49 of the year 2025, the console sold more than 200,000 units in Japan, which is its second biggest week to date.
In terms of lifetime sales 27 weeks after launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 is at the top with 3.172 million units sold, followed by the Game Boy Advance with 3.171 million units sold, followed by the PS2 with 3.112 million units sold, followed by the Wii with 2.563 million units sold, followed by the Nintendo DS with 2.232 million units sold, followed by the 3DS with 1.687 million units sold, followed by the Nintendo Switch with 1.598 million units sold, followed by the PSP with 1.435 million units sold, followed by the Nintendo Gamecube with 1.233 million units sold, followed by the Wii U with 0.941 million units sold, followed by the PS1 with 0.931 million units sold, followed by the PS3 with 0.910 million units sold, followed by the N64 with 0.865 million units sold, followed by the PS Vita with 0.744 million units sold, followed by the PS5 with 0.726 million units sold.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was released across most regions on June 5, 2025.
