Nintendo Switch 2 sales have surpassed those of Wii U, Sega Dreamcast, and PlayStation Vita in the UK, according to a new report.

Christopher Dring, Editor-In-Chief and Co-Founder of The Game Business, took to Twitter/X to report that, as per NielsenIQ data, Nintendo Switch 2 has now outsold Wii U, Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation Vita in the UK. He further mentioned that Nintendo’s new console is also a “reasonable chunk above” the launch year sales performance of the original Switch, “way more than” 600,000 units.

Earlier this month, Twitter/X user pierre485_, who follows and shares sales data on video games, reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 sold over 3.172 million units in Japan after 27 weeks of being available on the local market. This effectively makes it the best-selling console in the country, ahead of the Game Boy Advance, which sold 3.171 million units, and the PS2, which sold 3.112 million units, launch aligned.

The sales milestone also means that the console’s sales are more than double those of the original Nintendo Switch during the same time frame in Japan. It’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch 2 is also the best-selling console in the country in terms of week 1 sales. Furthermore, during week 49 of the year 2025, the console sold more than 200,000 units in Japan, which is its second biggest week to date.

In terms of lifetime sales 27 weeks after launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 leads with 3.172 million units sold, narrowly ahead of the Game Boy Advance at 3.171 million units sold and the PlayStation 2 at 3.112 million units sold. The Wii follows with 2.563 million units sold, with the Nintendo DS next at 2.232 million units sold. After that come the Nintendo 3DS with 1.687 million units sold, the original Nintendo Switch with 1.598 million units sold, and the PSP at 1.435 million units sold. The Nintendo GameCube comes next at 1.233 million units sold, while the Wii U follows with 0.941 million units sold.
