Nintendo has announced its financial results for the first half of fiscal year 2026, revealing that the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold an impressive 10.36 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2025. The console’s strong launch performance has significantly contributed to Nintendo’s robust sales and profit growth for the period between April and September 2025.

According to the company’s Q2 FY2026 financial report, net sales rose by 110.1% year-over-year to reach 1,099.5 billion yen. Operating profit increased by 19.5% to 145.1 billion yen, while net profit surged 83.1% to 198.9 billion yen.

Hardware sales reached 5.82 million units during the first quarter and 4.54 million in the second, bringing the cumulative total to 10.36 million. Regionally, the Americas led with 3.68 million units sold, followed by Europe with 2.40 million, Japan with 2.35 million, and other markets accounting for 1.93 million. On the software side, Nintendo reported 20.62 million units sold for Switch 2 titles, including approximately 8.10 million bundled copies. The top-performing games were Mario Kart World with 9.57 million units and Donkey Kong Bananza with 3.49 million.

Despite these achievements, Nintendo acknowledged that profit margins have declined due to the Switch 2’s lower hardware profitability. The company’s gross profit margin fell from 60.8% to 36.2%, reflecting the increased share of hardware in total sales. Digital sales also saw a slight decline, down 2.8% year-over-year to 155.5 billion yen, accounting for 54.5% of total software revenue.

Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch continues to perform steadily, with lifetime sales reaching 154.01 million units. During the first half of FY2026, the console sold 1.89 million hardware units and 61.56 million software units. Nintendo plans to continue supporting both systems, noting that many original Switch titles remain compatible with the new hardware.

The company’s strong performance prompted an upward revision of its full-year forecast. Nintendo now expects to sell 19 million Switch 2 consoles (up from the previous projection of 15 million) and 48 million units of Switch 2 software by the end of March 2026. For the original Switch, forecasts remain at 4 million hardware units and 125 million software units.

Beyond hardware, Nintendo provided updated sales figures for several of its major titles. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe climbed to 69.56 million copies, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons reached 48.62 million. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stands at 36.93 million, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 33.34 million and Super Mario Odyssey at 29.84 million.

The launch of the Switch 2 marks one of Nintendo’s most successful hardware transitions, combining strong early adoption with continued demand for legacy titles. While profitability remains affected by hardware costs, the company’s soaring sales and confident forecast signal that the next generation of Nintendo gaming is off to a powerful start.
