Nintendo has confirmed that its latest console, the Nintendo Switch 2, has reached a remarkable milestone, selling more than 5 million units globally during its debut month of June 2025. According to regional breakdown data shared on the company’s official website, the Americas led sales with approximately 1.8 million units, followed by Japan with 1.47 million, Europe with 1.18 million, and other regions collectively contributing 0.55 million units.
This figure significantly surpasses the original Nintendo Switch’s first-month performance, which recorded around 2.74 million units sold at launch in March 2017. The Switch 2’s rapid adoption demonstrates not only the continued strength of Nintendo’s hybrid console strategy but also the robust demand for new hardware in the current gaming market.
In the United States, Switch 2 achieved an extraordinary launch, setting a new record for being the fastest-selling video game console in US history, with over 1.1 million units sold in its first week alone. Industry analyst Mat Piscatella noted that this figure does not even include digital sales through Nintendo’s online store, which could further elevate the total. Initial projections indicated that final domestic figures for June could potentially reach 1.35 million units once all distribution channels are fully reported. However, it appears that the actual figures have surpassed this estimate according to the official data.
Key titles supporting the Switch 2’s successful launch included Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. These games drove strong consumer enthusiasm for the new platform, blending iconic Nintendo properties with high-profile third-party releases.
Earlier reports had already highlighted the scale of Nintendo’s achievement, with the Switch 2 selling 3.5 million units worldwide within its first four days on the market, setting a new benchmark for hardware launches in the company’s history. This momentum carried forward throughout the rest of the month, positioning the Switch 2 as one of Nintendo’s most successful hardware debuts to date.
