During Gamescom Asia 2025, newly shared data from 4Gamer and X (formerly Twitter) has revealed fascinating insights into global gaming conversations from 2024. According to Aaron Kobes, Head of Gaming for APAC at X, Nintendo Switch was the fifth most popular gaming hashtag worldwide on the platform, while Pokémon followed close behind in seventh place.
In the same report, Final Fantasy emerged as the fifth most-discussed game on X during 2024, ranking behind major live-service and mobile titles such as Genshin Impact, Blue Archive, League of Legends, and Honkai Series. Rounding out the top ten were Zenless Zone Zero, Project Sekai, Fortnite, Ensemble Stars!!, and Minecraft. For hashtags, #GenshinImpact dominated the list, followed by #MonsterStrike, #HonkaiStarRail, and #Arcane, before #NintendoSwitch secured its fifth-place position.
Kobes presented these findings on October 17, 2025, at the Gamescom Asia held in Bangkok. His presentation, titled Gaming on X – Conversations, Communities & Beyond, explored how X has evolved into a vital hub for global gaming discussions and advertising strategies. He revealed that the platform now boasts over 548 million monthly active users, representing a 3 percent increase year-over-year, while daily engagement has surged by 90 percent. Video content has also seen a 38 percent increase in viewership, suggesting that users are not merely scrolling through updates but actively engaging with gaming media.
Gaming continues to be one of the most active communities on X, ranking second only to sports in total conversation volume. Kobes described X as the “Golden Platform” for live discussions surrounding esports tournaments, launch events, and major industry announcements. Each day, gamers around the world generate more than 20 million posts related to gaming alone, making the platform a crucial ecosystem for publishers, developers, and advertisers seeking real-time engagement.
For Nintendo and Square Enix, the platform’s data paints a clear picture of continued dominance. The Nintendo Switch, even in its eighth year on the market, remains one of the most talked-about gaming brands globally, while Pokémon continues to captivate audiences across generations. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy’s enduring global appeal proves that even in an age dominated by live-service and mobile titles, classic Japanese franchises continue to shape the conversation.
