The Nintendo Switch 2 can connect to the Switch 2 and be used as a dual screen controller, based on a new rumor.

In his latest video on his YouTube channel, known insider and content creator extas1s has claimed that one of the functions of the C button seen on the right Nintendo Switch 2 joy-con is it can be used to connect the upcoming console with the original Switch, allowing the latter to be used as a dual screen controller.

The fundamental idea is reminiscent of the Wii U and its tablet gamepad, where certain games offered dual screen functionality with the TV serving as the primary screen and the tablet display being the second screen for showing in-game elements such as the world map or the inventory menu. Several first-party titles took advantage of the feature, but given the console’s limited success, it didn’t get much support from third-party developers.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of the Nintendo Switch 2 potentially offering a Wii U-like dual screen experience. Back in September, 2024, during an episode of the VGC podcast, Chris Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, had mentioned hearing from his sources that the upcoming console will be a dual screen type product, allowing the handheld screen and the TV to work in sync in order to deliver that sort of an experience.

As for whether the C button has other uses remains to be seen, but this appears to be its primary purpose.

Earlier, Taiwain’s Economic Daily had shared rumored information regarding hardware specs for the Nintendo Switch 2, including details on the handheld’s display. The source had mentioned that the handheld’s display will have a refresh rate of 120Hz, leading to the possibility of certain games targeting a frame rate of 120fps. It’s currently unknown whether the display will also support Variable Refresh Rate, but it would certainly make sense for it to do so.
