The Nintendo Switch Online Playtest applications are now live. Here’s how you can find out whether you’ve been selected.

Nintendo is accepting applications for the Nintendo Switch Online Playtest program. Those interested can submit their application to join by following the link here. Users are required to have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership to apply. Those who are accepted must have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership or a Nintendo Switch Online membership in order to proceed further.

Those who participated in the October, 2024, Nintendo Switch Online Playtest will be able to participate once again without going through the application process, though they are required to have had an Expansion Pack tier Nintendo Switch Online membership on July 17, 2025, else they will not be eligible to participate this time around.

The selection process will vary by region, with Japanese applicants entered into a raffle and participants from other countries chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will be required to download exclusive software to their Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system. The participation page will open on July 25, 2025, at 4:30 AM UTC. Past applicants may view the page here to know whether they have been selected for this round. This Playtest is expected to accept as many as 40,000 participants worldwide.

The program is intended to evaluate online service features for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch platforms. However, strict confidentiality guidelines are in place, particularly after last year’s Playtest saw significant leaks. Despite the inclusion of a non-disclosure agreement, footage and gameplay details from the earlier session surfaced online, sparking widespread speculation about the project’s nature.

Although Nintendo has refrained from officially confirming details about this project, the recurring playtests and leaked information point toward a significant online multiplayer venture. Whether this signals a larger shift in Nintendo’s approach to live service games or remains an experimental project under the Switch Online banner is yet to be seen.
