Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 System Update 21.0.0 Introduces Virtual Game Card Enhancements, New Icons, and Improved Accessibility

Nintendo has released version 21.0.0 for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, introducing a range of usability enhancements, visual updates, and system refinements. This dual-platform update brings visible indicators for physical and digital software on the HOME Menu, new options for virtual game cards, and expanded system transfer settings to improve user control when moving between consoles. Players can also now adjust volume during VR mode, and general performance improvements ensure a smoother experience across both systems.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version adds further upgrades, including improved GameChat functionality, an option to cancel all active downloads, and enhancements to accessibility and audio customization. The update also refines HDR display options and introduces Thai and Polish as new language settings. These combined adjustments highlight Nintendo’s ongoing focus on inclusivity, user convenience, and technical optimization across its hardware lineup.

Nintendo Switch Ver. 21.0.0 (Released November 10, 2025)

  • Added symbols above software icons on the HOME Menu to show whether the software is physical or digital.
  • Added the ability to download data for a virtual game card even if the “Use Online License” setting is turned off.
    • This option is available in the Options menu of a virtual game card via Virtual Game Cards on the HOME Menu.
  • Updated the information shown for Save Data Cloud Backup when launching certain software.
  • Renamed “Platinum Point Notification Settings” to “Nintendo Switch Online Notification Settings” in the Notifications menu under System Settings.
  • Added the ability to disable the following options when transferring data to a Nintendo Switch 2 system:
    • Redownload Software on Nintendo Switch 2
    • Transfer Album Data
  • Added the ability to adjust volume directly from the Quick Settings menu while in VR mode.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance user experience.

Nintendo Switch 2 Ver. 21.0.0 (Released November 10, 2025)

  • Added symbols above software icons on the HOME Menu to indicate physical or digital versions.
  • Added the option to cancel all downloads when multiple software downloads are in progress.
  • Added a “Receive Software” icon for console bundles that include downloadable software.
    • This icon appears when connected to the internet and launches Nintendo eShop for download.
    • Software can also be received directly through Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
  • Expanded the “Search for Users You’ve Played With” feature under Add Friend to include users from friends’ GameChat rooms.
  • Added the ability to download data for a virtual game card even if the “Use Online License” setting is turned off.

GameChat Updates:

  • The console no longer goes to sleep automatically during chats.
  • Added an option to turn off “Chat Audio Panning.”
  • Chat continues when switching from TV (wired) to Handheld or Table mode (wireless).

Accessibility (System Settings):

  • Text-to-Speech now reads predictive conversion characters on the Japanese keyboard.
  • Increased Text-to-Speech speed limit from 300% to 400%.

Audio (System Settings):

  • Added the option to select “Stable” or “Low Latency” audio mode for the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
    • “Low Latency” reduces delay but may cause interference in some environments.

Display (System Settings):

  • Renamed “HDR Output” to “System Screen’s HDR Output.”
  • Improved the display during Adjust Screen Size for easier calibration.

Notifications (System Settings):

  • Renamed “Platinum Point Notification” to “Nintendo Switch Online Notification.”

  • Renamed “Stop Charging Around 90%” to “Stop Charging Around 80–90%.”
  • Added Thai and Polish as new language options.
    • These languages are only available in supported software.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance user experience.
