Nintendo is setting its sights on record-breaking production numbers for the fiscal year, with a new report from Bloomberg indicating that the company has instructed suppliers to manufacture as many as 25 million Nintendo Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026. If achieved, this figure would represent one of the strongest first-year performances for any console in gaming history, surpassing both internal projections and analyst expectations.
According to sources cited in the report, Nintendo began assembling the Switch 2 near the end of 2024 and has now ramped up production to meet overwhelming global demand. The company expects sustained consumer interest throughout the upcoming holiday season and into 2026. While the final production totals could be adjusted based on real-time sales data, the current target suggests extraordinary confidence in the console’s commercial momentum.
Market analysts had previously projected around 17.6 million units in sales for the fiscal year ending March 2026, but internal estimates now indicate that Nintendo is on track to sell approximately 20 million units by that date. The remaining inventory, expected to number several million units, will likely roll over into the next fiscal year, ensuring continued market availability amid persistent demand.
The company’s bold production strategy follows an exceptional launch period for the Switch 2, which has already shattered sales records worldwide. In the United States, the console sold 2.4 million units within its first three months, surpassing the PlayStation 4’s record of 2.2 million units and officially becoming the fastest-selling video game console in U.S. history. According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, these early sales figures also contributed to an 11 percent year-over-year increase in total video game spending across the U.S. market, reaching $4.7 billion in August 2025.
Globally, the Switch 2’s performance has been equally impressive. The console sold 3.5 million units within its first four days, making it the fastest-selling piece of Nintendo hardware worldwide. By the end of its first month, sales had already surpassed 5 million units, and by June 30, 2025—less than one month after launch—Nintendo’s quarterly report confirmed 5.82 million units sold.
By late July 2025, Nintendo announced that the console had surpassed 6 million units globally within seven weeks, and by August, U.S. market data confirmed its position as the industry’s fastest-selling console. This early momentum, combined with aggressive manufacturing goals, signals that Nintendo is preparing for one of the most commercially successful years in its history.
