Nioh 3 Confirmed as Six-Month PS5 Console Exclusive

by Ali Haider

Nioh 3 will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive for at least six months following its release, continuing a long-standing pattern in the series’ relationship with Sony’s hardware. While the upcoming entry will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC, additional console platforms are not planned to receive the game during the initial six-month window.

The Nioh franchise, developed by Team Ninja, has historically debuted on PlayStation consoles before expanding to other platforms at a later date. The original Nioh released in 2017 as a PlayStation console exclusive and later arrived on PC through Steam in a Complete Edition. Nioh 2 followed a similar trajectory after its 2020 launch. Although Nioh 3 is easing this model by offering a day-one PC release, console availability remains limited to PlayStation 5 at launch.

This means PlayStation 5 will be the only console platform to feature Nioh 3 during its first six months on the market. Other consoles, including Xbox platforms, are not expected to receive the game within that timeframe. The approach preserves PlayStation’s status as the franchise’s primary console home, even as the series expands its simultaneous PC presence.

Nioh 3 is a dark fantasy action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo. The game is set during the Edo period in 1622 and follows Tokugawa Takechiyo as he travels across multiple historical eras to confront a supernatural force known as the Crucible. The narrative framework supports a more expansive structure than previous entries, with environments described as “open field” rather than strictly mission-based stages.

From a gameplay perspective, Nioh 3 introduces a dynamic combat system that allows players to switch between two distinct styles: the traditional Samurai stance and a faster, more agile Ninja style. This system is designed to offer greater flexibility in encounters while preserving the demanding combat philosophy the series is known for.

Nioh 3 is scheduled to release on February 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Windows via Steam. A final public demo launched on January 29, 2026, and will remain available until February 15. The demo supports save data transfer to the full game and includes a “Twin-Snake Helmet” reward for players who complete it.
