Nioh 3 has achieved a major milestone on Steam, reaching a peak of over 84,000 concurrent players and setting a new all-time record for Koei Tecmo on the platform. The figure marks the highest peak concurrent player count ever recorded for a game published by Koei Tecmo on Steam, highlighting a significant moment for both the franchise and the publisher’s PC strategy.
Nioh 3 quickly climbed to a peak of more than 84,000 simultaneous players at launch. This performance surpasses Koei Tecmo’s previous Steam record holder, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which peaked at 75,906 concurrent users. The achievement places Nioh 3 at the top of the publisher’s historical rankings on the platform.
The results indicate a significant advancement for the Nioh franchise. The original Nioh reached a peak of just over 10,000 concurrent players on Steam, highlighting the substantial growth of the series’ PC audience over time. In comparison, another recent Koei Tecmo release, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, achieved a peak of approximately 69,000 concurrent players at its launch in 2025. While this makes it one of the publisher’s strongest performers on PC, it still falls short of Nioh 3’s numbers.
Nioh 3 is a dark fantasy action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo for PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows. Built using the Katana Engine, the game serves as a chronological sequel to the original Nioh. Unlike its predecessors, which relied on a mission-based structure, Nioh 3 adopts a more expansive open-field world design, marking a notable shift for the series.
Players take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo across multiple historical Japanese eras, including the Edo, Heian, and Bakumatsu periods. The narrative centers on his efforts to stop a supernatural conspiracy led by his brother, Kunimatsu. Gameplay additions include a dual-combat system that allows players to switch dynamically between Samurai and Ninja styles, as well as new mechanics such as Deflect and the Arts Proficiency system.
Nioh 3 officially launched worldwide on February 6, 2026. Its record-breaking Steam debut positions it not only as the most successful Koei Tecmo PC release to date, but also as a clear indicator of the franchise’s expanding global reach. If nothing else, the numbers suggest that Nioh’s audience has grown far beyond its early days, and that PC players are very much along for the ride.
