No Man’s Sky Update 5.20 Released With “The Cursed” Expedition [Updated]

by Ali Haider

No Man’s Sky 5.20 update introduces Expedition Sixteen, titled “The Cursed,” which will run for approximately two weeks. This expedition brings new gameplay elements where boundary walls between universes are crumbling, leading to the replacement of conventional hazards by Local Boundary Strength, a mechanic that players must manage to avoid dangerous boundary horrors. The rewards for participating in the expedition include new customization options such as posters, decals, titles, a jetpack trail, a bioluminescent companion, a cursed helmet, and the exclusive Boundary Herald starship. In addition to the expedition content, the update focuses on performance improvements and bug fixes, particularly addressing graphical issues across multiple platforms and optimizing particle and shadow rendering for smoother gameplay.

Several key technical fixes and adjustments have been introduced. These include rendering optimizations, fixes for graphical corruption on Xbox, and improvements in depth of field rendering on the Nintendo Switch. Various gameplay bugs have also been resolved, such as the failure of some large saves to load correctly, multiplayer weather-related issues, and several performance improvements for the Analysis Visor. The update also addresses visual and user interface glitches, including problems with the backpack offset, facial shape resetting in the Appearance Modifier, and incorrect text on fleet management pages.
