Xbox will not be holding a TGS showcase this year in 2024, while PlayStation will be attending the event as an exhibitor.
According to the TGS 2024 exhibitor list (via), Xbox will not be holding an online broadcast this year. Meanwhile, PlayStation will be attending the event as an exhibitor. Microsoft has been listed as an “online only” exhibitor during prior years, but it are nowhere to be found on this years exhibitor list.
A likely reason for not having an online broadcast this year is that Xbox already had a pretty major showcase last month, in which it revealed a large slate of first-party titles from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda Game Studios, and Activision Blizzard King.
That said, it was recently mentioned by content creator Parris Lilly that Xbox has a lot more games to show that it couldn’t fit in June’s Showcase. He mentioned that he had multiple people at the company tell him there was so much more they could have shown at the Showcase, but couldn’t due to time constraints. He added that this year’s Gamescom is shaping up to be a major event for Xbox.
The Xbox Two podcast co-host Jez Corden had similar information to share on Twitter/X. He mentioned that the titles that were shown during the June Showcase are only part of what’s coming. It was assumed that some of these upcoming announcements and reveals would be saved for Tokyo Game Show 2024, as the company has also been collaborating on some Japanese projects. However, it now appears that this won’t be the case.
Upcoming announcements may not be limited to games, however. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer showed great interest in the possibility of an Xbox handheld gaming device during a recent interview. He said that the future for Xbox in hardware is “pretty awesome”, and the work that the team is doing around different form factors and different ways to play is something that he’s excited about.
