Here’s a graphical comparison of the portrayal of actor Norman Reedus in games across several PlayStation console generations, including Kojima Productions’ latest action-adventure game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame made his first video game appearance in a game based on the TV series, titled The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. He was then seen in Kojima Productions’ interactive demo, P.T. Later, the studio made a full game with him featured as protagonist Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding for PS4. Subsequently, he once again appeared as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead: Onslaught, Fortnite Battle Royale, State of Survival, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. With today’s launch of Death Stranding 2, Norman Reedus makes his first major appearance in a brand new title on the current-gen PS5 console, reprising his role as Sam.

Norman Reedus Graphical Evolution Leading Up To Death Stranding 2
For the purpose of this screenshot comparison, we picked one game from each of the PS3, PS4, and PS5 console generations in which Norman Reedus is prominently featured, namely The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct (top), Death Stranding (middle), and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (bottom). The images can be seen below.
As seen above, there is a massive visual leap in the graphical representation when going from The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct for PS3 to the original Death Stranding for PS4. Aspects like skin lighting and texture quality, skin shaders, eye and hair rendering, and overall face and character model detail sees major improvements across the board. On the other hand, the graphical leap from Death Stranding to its PS5 exclusive sequel isn’t of the same degree, but there is a clear and visible improvement in terms of each of the aforementioned aspects. Despite the diminishing returns on modern hardware, this by far is Norman Reedus’ most realistic portrayal yet, as it comes closest to achieving photo-realism.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is now available exclusively for PS5.
