The milestone was shared publicly through the official Octopath Traveler X account, marking a significant sales achievement for the long-running HD 2D role-playing franchise.
In the announcement, the publisher stated, “The Octopath Traveler series has officially surpassed 6 million units shipped and downloaded worldwide! We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone who has supported us along the way.” The message directly credits long-term fan support as a key factor behind the series’ continued commercial success, which has steadily grown with each new release.
The update also highlights the strong reception of the newest entry, Octopath Traveler 0, which is now available. According to the same statement, “The latest entry in the series, Octopath Traveler 0, is now available to great acclaim!” Alongside the new release, Square Enix has launched a limited promotion on the digital versions of Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II, both of which are discounted by 60 percent starting today. The publisher added, “We hope you will take this opportunity to experience the journey for yourself,” positioning the sale as an accessible entry point for new players.
Octopath Traveler is Square Enix’s flagship HD 2D franchise, known for combining classic 16-bit style character sprites with modern #D environments. The series is also defined by its Break and Boost combat system, which encourages strategic play by rewarding careful timing and enemy exploitation. Earlier entries in the franchise focused on the individual stories of eight separate protagonists, each following their own path and motivations.
Octopath Traveler 0 represents a notable shift in structure and presentation. The game serves as a console-focused reimagining of the mobile title Champions of the Continent, removing its gacha mechanics in favor of a traditional premium single-player format. Released on December 4, 2025, the game is available across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the first time in the series, players control a fully customizable silent protagonist tasked with rebuilding the town of Wishvale while confronting three central antagonists driven by wealth, power, and fame.
