Onimusha 2 Original vs Remaster Censorship Changes

As seen below, censorship in the new version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is mainly applied to Oyu’s outfit, which is now far less revealing. The remaster has her wearing a black attire under her coat, hiding the partial nudity seen in the original.

As one fan points out, Capcom’s handling of censorship is rather confusing. On one hand, games like Street Fighter and Dragons Dogma 2 are allowed to get away with risque costumes, such as Cammy’s leotard. Everything else, ranging from the Dead Rising Deluxe remaster to the Resident Evil Remakes have been toned down.

Despite Onimusha 2 being given an ESRB rating of M for Mature (suitable for ages 17 and above), Capcom opted to censor some of the sexualized content found in the original. That said, outside of this particular change, the 2002 original has been preserved in the new remaster, often to a fault. In our review, we mention that while the revamped visuals significantly enhance the presentation, even by modern standards, the decision to stick with the original’s fixed camera angles results in the game feeling a bit outdated and clunky to play. It can be especially frustrating when taking hits from off-screen enemies or bosses. For fans, it’s a nostalgic trip worth taking, but newcomers may find its clunkiness harder to swallow.

The Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny remaster is now available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
