The estimated game length of Capcom’s upcoming action game, Onimusha: Way of The Sword, has been revealed.

During an interview with Famitsu, Onimusha: Way of The Sword producer Akihito Kadowaki was asked about the volume of content offered by the game and the duration it would take to complete it. In response, he mentioned that he wants to create a satisfying volume of content for an action title. He added that it’s not the kind of game where the player defeats the same boss over and over again, like in the Monster Hunter series. As such, he said that Onimusha: Way of The Sword will have an approximate length of 20 hours.

In comparison, Onimusha: Warlords took around 4 to 5 hours, Onimusha 2 took around 8 to 10 hours, Onimusha 3 took around 10 to 12 hours, while Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams took around 16 to 18 hours to complete.

Further in the interview, Kadowaki was asked about the structure of progression in Onimusha: Way of The Sword.  He responded by saying that the story progresses as the player clears stages, and he clarified that the game doesn’t feature an open world.

Regarding a possible story connection with previous games, Onimusha: Way of The Sword director Satoru Nihei said that, for the first time in about twenty years, Capcom is reviewing, reinterpreting, and reconstructing the worldbuilding for the series, including phantoms and ogre clans. Therefore, there is essentially no connection with past Onimusha titles. This decision was also aimed at making it possible to accommodate those who are new to the series. Kadowaki added that he didn’t want the experience to vary based on prior knowledge of the series.

Elsewhere in the interview, it was mentioned that Onimusha: Way of The Sword will feature puzzle-solving elements in addition to the fighting.

Onimusha: Way of The Sword set for release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
