Oscar 2026 Nominations Revealed Across Major Film Categories

by Greg Martin

The Academy has officially announced the complete list of nominations for the 2026 Oscars. This year’s nominees highlight a diverse selection that reflects the current landscape of modern cinema. The list includes a combination of large-scale productions and smaller, character-driven films, emphasizing the ongoing tension between prestigious filmmaking and mainstream spectacle as we move further into awards season.

The Best Picture category features ten nominees, including Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle, Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams. Together, the lineup spans multiple genres and tones, ranging from historical and literary adaptations to high-energy sports drama and darker, more introspective narratives. Several of these titles appear repeatedly across major and technical categories, positioning them as early frontrunners.

In the directing race, Chloe Zhao, Josh Safdie, Paul Thomas Anderson, Joachim Trier, and Ryan Coogler earned nominations, reflecting a field split between established auteurs and filmmakers known for more experimental or character-focused work. Acting categories are similarly competitive. Leading actor nominees include Timothy Chalamet, Leonardo Di Caprio, Ethan Hawke, Michael B Jordan, and Wagner Moura, while the leading actress category features Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Renata Reinsve, and Emma Stone.

Supporting performance nominations highlight Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, Sean Penn, and Stellan Skarsgard for actor, alongside Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Amy Madigan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Teyana Taylor for actress. These categories reflect a strong emphasis on ensemble-driven storytelling across the nominated films.

Screenwriting honors are divided between original and adapted works. Original Screenplay nominees include Blue Moon, It Was Just An Accident, Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value, and Sinners. Adapted Screenplay contenders are Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, One Battle After Another, and Train Dreams, many of which also appear in Best Picture.

Technical categories further highlight repeat contenders such as Frankenstein, Sinners, Marty Supreme, and One Battle, with recognition across cinematography, production design, editing, sound, and visual effects. Animated Feature nominations include Arco, Elio, KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amelie, and Zootopia 2, while international and documentary categories reflect a wide range of global and nonfiction storytelling.
