Overcooked! 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is an upgraded version of the original release on the Nintendo Switch. It now supports up to 4K resolution and runs at 60 FPS, while also introducing an exclusive new Chef called Platinum Platypus. For players who already own the original game, the upgrade costs a reasonable $9.99. Having finished the original version on the Switch, I found this upgrade well worth the price. For newcomers, the updated Switch 2 edition includes all post-launch DLC content, making it the best way to experience the game.
The original Overcooked! 2 didn’t run at 60 FPS on the Switch, unless my memory is off. I completed the entire game and its DLC there, and it was still an enjoyable experience. After getting this upgraded version, I was pleased to see that nearly all my progress carried over without issue. Save data from the original game transfers smoothly to the upgraded release, along with any previously owned DLC. If you purchase the full Switch 2 edition, all DLCs are included, but that’s not the case for the upgrade pack.
The upgrade pack not only improves the visuals of Overcooked! 2 but also makes it a strong version that matches the PC release in terms of visual quality. It includes some Switch 2–exclusive features as well, such as GameShare and CameraPlay. These are fairly niche additions, so I did not spend much time exploring them. They seem best suited for party settings with co-op play. I did notice the CameraPlay feature being used in Mario Party Jamboree, but I never bought the camera myself since it feels unnecessary for now, especially until more games offer meaningful support for it.
The game supports both local and online multiplayer, and the Joy-Con controllers on both the Switch and Switch 2 still feel perfectly suited for a game like Overcooked! 2. The improved Joy-Con design, which has fewer issues than the original, makes the gameplay smoother and more comfortable, especially in sessions of two or four players. Cross-generation multiplayer is available too, allowing Switch and Switch 2 owners to play together. Unfortunately, there’s still no cross-platform multiplayer support, which would have been a great addition.
As for the game itself, the story is fairly straightforward. You play as a chef who teams up with others to take on The Unbred, the Onion Kingdom’s version of zombies. The gameplay focuses on two main goals: preparing and managing recipes, and avoiding obstacles while using your resources efficiently. It’s a deeply cooperative experience that loses some of its charm when played solo. The Switch 2 edition includes nearly all post-launch DLC, offering a large number of new levels and challenges. Many of these were new to me, as I had not experienced all the DLC before this version.
While the original release offered only a limited selection of Chefs, the addition of all DLCs and the Switch 2 edition has expanded that roster significantly. There are now plenty of Chefs to choose from, though most of them are purely cosmetic and don’t impact gameplay or provide any special abilities. Because of that, they don’t feel particularly essential. Personally, I’m not too concerned with the appearance of a Chef in a game where timing and resource management matter more than looks. That said, the newly designed Chef exclusive to the Switch 2 edition fits perfectly with the game’s colorful and cartoony style.
Overcooked! 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition stands out as a highly polished and entertaining co-op experience. For newcomers, this version offers hours of fun with friends and comes with all post-launch DLCs, making it the most complete release of the game. For players who already own the original version, the upgrade pack is a worthwhile purchase thanks to its visual improvements and added features. The DLCs are also available separately at half price to celebrate the launch of this edition, giving players a chance to complete their collection.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the Switch 2 version of Overcooked! 2. From its fair upgrade price to full support for past DLCs and seamless save data transfer, it provides an excellent reason to return to the kitchen—even for those who have already finished the game before.
