PEGI Issues Mature Rating for MindsEye Citing “Motiveless Killing of Human Characters”

The upcoming action-adventure title MindsEye has officially been rated PEGI 18, restricting it to adult players due to its depiction of intense violence and strong language. The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) board cited several content-specific concerns, most notably the game’s allowance for motiveless killing of innocent human characters.

Players assume the role of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier haunted by fragmented memories of a covert operation that altered his life. Equipped with a mysterious implant known as the “MindsEye,” Diaz finds himself navigating a dangerous world where reality and memory blur. The game’s narrative unfolds through both combat encounters and story-driven sequences, but the realism of the violence has drawn particular scrutiny.

According to PEGI’s classification, the game features numerous scenes in which players can shoot innocent non-playable characters (NPCs) at random. Victims react with screams of pain, visible blood spray, and realistic death animations. PEGI specifically noted the motiveless nature of this violence as a major reason for the mature age restriction. While the game also includes combat against robotic enemies, these encounters similarly involve graphic detail, including scenarios where headless robots continue to attack.

Other intense moments include implications of suicide, the presence of body bags in certain scenes, and references to sexual acts. Although one chapter is set in a deteriorating casino, players are not permitted to engage with any gambling mechanics.

In addition to the visual violence, the game uses frequent strong language. PEGI noted the use of explicit terms such as ‘fuck’, along with other profanities including ‘shit’, ‘bitch’, ‘bastard’, and ‘asshole’.

The content warnings categorize MindsEye as PEGI 18, indicating it is intended for a mature audience. This is consistent with the Grand Theft Auto series, which is not surprising considering that MindsEye was developed by a new studio founded by a former executive from Rockstar.
