An Xbox user claims to have lost their $40,000 worth of Xbox digital library after receiving a permanent ban for playing in a modded online lobby.

The individual, who goes by the handle , mentioned that their Xbox account received a permanent ban for something completely outside their control. They have been playing on Xbox since 2007, and have spent over $40,000 on more than 600 games, but Microsoft took all that away from them taking away access to their Xbox account.

Xbox permanent ban

According to the banned Xbox user, they were having a multiplayer session of Call of Duty Black Ops, when another player used a mod menu to unlock achievements for everyone in the lobby. They claim to have not done anything wrong, but still ended up getting a message informing them that they have been banned for breaking community guidelines. They also claim that their Xbox account has been in perfect standing prior to this incident, and that they have never cheated in their life. Yet, as per them, Microsoft decided to punish them for something they didn’t do.

The banned Xbox user further mentioned that their appeal against the ban got denied within minutes, without receiving a chance to explain their situation. The reason for my ban states, “No details given.”

Eventually, they were able to reach out to Xbox Support on Twitter/X. The Support representative informed them that only the enforcement team can handle this case, and that there is no direct way to contact them or escalate the matter any further. Further attempts to find a solution with Xbox Support led nowhere, and the banned user was told that nothing can be done, as there is no way to reach the enforcement team.

The banned Xbox user has now filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau, and will try to pursue a legal avenue.
