Going by the number of software features the PlayStation Portal has been receiving via updates, the device appears to be a part of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s long-term plans. As such, a model refresh with new hardware capabilities certainly isn’t out of the question.

The console maker recently rolled out Cloud Streaming for PlayStation Portal, enabling PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers to stream digital PlayStation 5 titles directly from the cloud. It is one of the most significant upgrades to the handheld remote-play device since its introduction in November, 2023. The new feature allows Premium members to stream compatible PS5 games from their own digital library without needing to connect to their home console.

The feature supports thousands of titles, including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4. Additionally, hundreds of titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, such as Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, can now be streamed directly through the service.

The new functionality enables players to enjoy PS5 games on PlayStation Portal without requiring the console to be powered on or connected locally. It also supports simultaneous use, allowing one user to stream from the cloud while another uses the PS5 console for different activities, such as watching movies or playing other games.
