Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, and Game Freak’s role-playing games, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, are already the top sellers on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Twitter/X user Stealth40k has reported that Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are currently the top sellers on the Switch eShop, pointing out that more Pokemon titles have sold on the platform than any other Nintendo console. This indicates that there is a substantial audience for previous-gen entries in the Pokemon series.
Recently, Twitter/X user FedeFadePSK reported that an Italian Nintendo Switch 2 user was able to receive early digital codes for their Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen pre-order from a local retailer via mail. The user has also provided a video of both games being on their console’s main menu. They were able to play Pokemon LeafGreen, while Pokemon FireRed currently doesn’t load up. According to them, once they bought both Italian versions via a local online store, they were able to receive codes within half an hour via mail.
Following the announcement that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are coming to Nintendo Switch on February 27, The Pokémon Company shared additional details on how the classic titles will function on modern hardware. The upcoming releases will largely match the content of their original Game Boy Advance versions, though certain specifications have been adjusted due to hardware differences. Connectivity features that previously relied on the Game Boy Advance Game Link cable or Wireless Adapter will now operate through the built-in local wireless connection available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems. Players will be able to access the Pokémon Wireless Club located on the second floor of a Pokémon Center, where up to four participants can connect locally.
Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen is set for release on February 27, 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. It will also be playable via backward compatibility on the Nintendo Switch 2.
