Digital codes for the Switch version of Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, and Game Freak’s role-playing games, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, are apparently being sent out early in some regions.

Twitter/X user FedeFadePSK has reported that an Italian Nintendo Switch 2 user was able to receive early digital codes for their Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen pre-order from a local retailer via mail. The user has also provided a video of both games being on their console’s main menu. They were able to play Pokemon LeafGreen, while Pokemon FireRed currently doesn’t load up.

The aforementioned video evidence of the Italian Switch 2 user having access to Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen can be seen below.

Following the announcement that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are coming to Nintendo Switch on February 27, The Pokémon Company shared additional details on how the classic titles will function on modern hardware. The upcoming releases will largely match the content of their original Game Boy Advance versions, though certain specifications have been adjusted due to hardware differences. Connectivity features that previously relied on the Game Boy Advance Game Link cable or Wireless Adapter will now operate through the built-in local wireless connection available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems.

Players will be able to access the Pokémon Wireless Club located on the second floor of a Pokémon Center, where up to four participants can connect locally. Through the Union Room, players can trade Pokémon, battle, or take part in a minigame, similar to how these features worked in the original release. Online play will not be supported. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to purchase or play either title. The games will be available as standalone digital releases on the Nintendo eShop and are not planned for inclusion in the Game Boy Advance Nintendo Classics collection. Physical versions will not be offered.
