Pokémon Legends: Arceus Resolution and Frame Rate For Nintendo Switch

by Greg Martin

Pokémon Legends: Arceus resolution and frame rate have been revealed for the Nintendo Switch. Here’s what you need to know about it.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available beginning today for the Nintendo Switch. The game is an open-world adventure in the same vein as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so it is interesting to note how well it performs on Nintendo’s hybrid console, which will celebrate its fifth year in the market in 2022..

According to a video analysis by our friends at VG Tech, the game appears to run at a dynamic 1080p resolution on the Nintendo Switch when running in docked mode. This drops down to a dynamic 720p setup when the game is running in portable mode.

Docked mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 1920×1080 and the lowest resolution found being 1536×756. Pixel counts at 1536×756 were uncommon.

Portable mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 1280×720 and the lowest resolution found being 1152×612. Pixel counts at 1280×720 seem to be common in portable mode.

Nearest neighbour scaling appears to be used to upscale the image when the resolution drops and this results in uneven pixel scaling.

Portable mode seems to drop below 30fps less often than docked mode does.

So the dynamic resolution scaling works well to keep the frame rate target at 30 FPS, but it is not perfectly locked to the target. Still, this is actually a pretty decent result all things considered.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
