The Pokemon Company has unveiled fresh details on Pokemon Legends Z-A, highlighting new gameplay features, pre-order bonuses, and the introduction of Mega Dragonite. The next entry in the Pokemon Legends series is set to launch on October 16, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
A centerpiece of the latest update is the early-purchase bonus program. Players who buy the digital version will receive a gift of 100 Poké Balls. Additionally, an exclusive early-purchase bonus offers a Rails holding a Gardevolhte stone. This special item will allow players to evolve Rails into Kirlin, then into Gardevolr, and eventually Mega Evolve it into Mega Gardevolr. The promotion will be available until February 28, 2026. To redeem the bonus, players must connect their Nintendo Switch system to the internet, with the Mystery Gift feature unlocking after roughly one hour of playtime. This offer applies to both digital and physical copies of the game.
Set entirely in Lumiose City, Pokemon Legends Z-A invites players to explore a vibrant urban landscape with a rich variety of activities and characters. Players can select between two protagonists — Urbain or Taunie — and join Team MZ, an organization dedicated to protecting Lumiose City. Team MZ itself includes a cast of diverse characters such as Naveen, an aspiring fashion designer, and Lida, who dreams of becoming a professional dancer. The storyline centers on the group’s efforts to defend the city while engaging with its inhabitants.
The game’s day and night cycle affects gameplay significantly. During the day, players can explore the city to encounter and catch Pokémon. At night, the focus shifts to the Z A Royale, a competition where trainers battle to improve their ranks and challenge stronger opponents. One of these opponents is Corbeau, the leader of the Rust Syndicate, a group operating within the city and entangled in Team MZ’s storyline.
Beyond its central narrative, Pokemon Legends Z-A will offer a range of side activities. Players can customize their character’s fashion, style their Pokémon — such as giving Furfrou a fresh trim — and take photographs with their Pokémon companions. The city itself is populated with various characters, including Emma, a detective, and Mable, the acting director of the Pokémon Research Center, who can provide players with valuable items and side quests.
A mysterious phenomenon affecting Lumiose City introduces wild Mega Evolutions, posing significant threats that require players to fight back using Mega Evolution themselves. Mega Dragonite stands as one of the newly revealed Mega Evolutions, emphasizing the need for strategy and collaboration. Members of Team MZ will also join players in key battles against these powerful foes.
