The Pokémon Company has shared fresh insights into Pokémon Legends Z-A, revealing new official artwork for its starter Pokémon. As excitement grows for the latest Pokémon game, these announcements give fans a better insight into what to expect from the upcoming adventure in the Kalos region.
The newly revealed artwork showcases the three starter Pokémon players will encounter in Pokémon Legends Z-A: Totodile, Tepig, and Chikorita. Each of these Pokémon carries its own legacy within the franchise, now brought together for the first time in a single game.
The upcoming Pokémon Legends Z-A will feature three returning starter Pokémon from previous generations:
- Totodile (Water-type, Gen II): The fierce yet playful Johto starter from Gold/Silver/Crystal
- Tepig (Fire-type, Gen V): The Unova region’s fiery starter from Black/White
- Chikorita (Grass-type, Gen II): The leafy Johto companion completing the classic trio
Pokémon Legends Z-A is set within Lumiose City, a prominent location in the Kalos region inspired by Paris, France. Unlike traditional mainline titles, this installment will focus exclusively on Lumiose City, possibly offering a dense, urban exploration experience similar to the structure of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The game is positioned as both a sequel to the sixth-generation titles Pokémon X and Y and as a spiritual successor to Legends: Arceus, blending familiar RPG mechanics with new narrative elements centered around Kalos lore.
Scheduled for release on October 16, 2025, Pokémon Legends Z-A will launch on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. While initially confirmed only for the original system, an enhanced port for the Switch 2 has since been announced, promising improved performance and visual fidelity for those on the newer hardware.
The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the next Pokémon Presents showcase will air on July 22 and will have a runtime of 24 minutes. This information was revealed through an early placeholder upload on the official Korean Pokémon YouTube channel. The presentation is expected to provide updates on upcoming titles, including Pokémon Legends Z-A, as well as possible announcements about other Pokémon projects.
