New Switch 2 gameplay footage of Nintendo and Game Freak’s upcoming action role-playing game, Pokemon Legends Z-A, has revealed that the game will feature smooth transitions to combat.
The official Japanese website for Pokemon Legends Z-A has been updated with new gameplay footage from the Nintendo Switch 2 version, showing smooth and seamless transitions in and out of combat mode. However, it’s unclear whether this is limited to the new console or if combat transitions will be similar in the Switch version.

Pokemon Legends Z-A Switch 2 Gameplay Footage
The aforementioned new gameplay footage from the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Pokemon Legends Z-A can be seen below.
In terms of changes from the prior entry, Pokemon Legends Arceus, the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A doesn’t show a cutscene of a wild Pokemon before entering combat, and the transition is entirely seamless. Additionally, the UI is now less cluttered, taking up less space on-screen than in the original. At the same time, it now conveys more information to the player, such as the prior action performed by both your Pokemon as well as the wild Pokemon you’re encountering.
In the above footage, the player is shown in command of the Chikorita Pokemon, while the wild Pokemon they’re up against is Turtwig. In Pokemon Legends Arceus, players had access to a limited number of three starter Pokemon, namely Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig. It looks like this may also be the case in the sequel. As seen in the gameplay video, the player can issue 3 commands to the Chikorita, namely Leafage, Tackle, and Tail Whip.
Recently, The Pokemon Company shared details on Pokemon Legends Z-A’s new gameplay features, pre-order bonuses, and the introduction of Mega Dragonite. Read about it here.
The next entry in the Pokemon Legends series is set to launch on October 16, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
