The Pokémon Company has officially unveiled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, the tenth generation of the long-running franchise, during the 30th anniversary Pokémon Presents broadcast on February 27, 2026. The new titles are scheduled to launch in 2027 and will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.

The announcement signifies an important milestone for the series, now entering its fourth decade with an exciting new setting, innovative mechanics, and a fresh trio of starter Pokémon. Set in a tropical archipelago inspired by Southeast Asia, Winds and Waves takes players on a journey across a chain of islands. Additionally, the games hint at a fully explorable 3D underwater environment, suggesting a renewed focus on traversal and interaction with the surroundings.

Players start their journey with a new category of starter Pokémon. The initial trio includes Browt, a Grass type; Pombon, a Fire type; and Gecqua, a Water type.

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are set to be released in 2027 for the Nintendo Switch 2. More information about the games is expected to be available as the release date approaches. As these are the first titles exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, they seem to be utilizing a new engine based on the gameplay footage we’ve seen.
