The Pokémon Company has officially unveiled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, the tenth generation of the long-running franchise, during the 30th anniversary Pokémon Presents broadcast on February 27, 2026. The new titles are scheduled to launch in 2027 and will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the series, which now enters its fourth decade with a new setting, new mechanics, and a fresh trio of starter Pokémon. Set in a tropical archipelago inspired by Southeast Asia, Winds and Waves take players across a chain of procedurally generated islands, expanding the scope of exploration beyond traditional region-based design. The games also introduce a fully explorable 3D underwater environment, suggesting a renewed emphasis on traversal and environmental interaction.
At the center of the experience is what the developers describe as an Infinity theme. Rather than following a strictly fixed progression path, players will encounter dynamically generated islands, each with distinct ecosystems, Pokémon populations, and environmental conditions. This structure is intended to create greater variation between playthroughs.
Players begin their journey with a new category of starter known as Seed Pokémon. The initial trio includes Browt, a Grass type; Pombon, a Fire type; and Gecqua, a Water type.
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are currently slated for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2.
