The Pokémon Company has shared fresh information and new artwork for Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, offering a clearer look at what players can expect when the tenth generation entries arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Developed by GAME FREAK, the titles were spotlighted during Pokémon Presents and are set for a simultaneous worldwide launch.
Positioned as the next mainline evolution of the long-running RPG series, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves introduce an expansive open world built around windswept islands and a vast, shimmering ocean. According to the official description, “These new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.”
The setting is described as a place where Pokémon live in harmony with a lush ecosystem shaped by sea and wind. Players will travel across islands, navigate open waters, and work alongside Pokémon to overcome environmental challenges. The official overview notes that during the adventure, players will “team up with all kinds of Pokémon to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times.”
As in previous entries, players assume the role of a young Trainer embarking on a new journey. This time, however, the protagonist’s outfit will vary depending on the version selected. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves each feature version-exclusive clothing designs for the main character, a detail showcased through newly released character artwork.
The starter Pokémon lineup has also been formally introduced with full details. Players will choose one of three partners at the beginning of their journey. Browt, categorized as the Bean Chick Pokémon, is a Grass-type standing 1 foot tall and weighing 7.7 pounds. It possesses the Ability Overgrow. Its official description states, “This Pokémon runs about energetically while photosynthesizing using the leaves on its brow. It’s lively, but it can also be a bit clumsy.”
Pombon, the Puppy Pokémon, represents the Fire type option. It measures 1 foot 4 inches in height and weighs 14.8 pounds, with the Ability Blaze. Its description reads, “The area below its throat glows faintly from the heat-generating organ within its lungs. This Pokémon is guileless and friendly.”
Completing the trio is Gecqua, the Water Gecko Pokémon. Gecqua stands 1 foot tall, weighs 9.5 pounds, and carries the Ability Torrent. According to the official profile, “This Pokémon launches springy balls of water from its tail. Gecqua is very intelligent and maneuvers shrewdly while putting on airs.”
In addition to the starter reveal, The Pokémon Company confirmed that Brazilian Portuguese will be supported as a selectable language beginning with Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves.
