Bandai Namco has officially confirmed that Soulcalibur III will be joining the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog later this year, marking another addition to Sony’s growing library of legacy titles. The announcement was made through the official Soulcalibur account, confirming the game’s inclusion for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users subscribed to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier.

Soulcalibur III is coming to the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog,” the post stated, adding that the title is planned for release later this year. The announcement further clarified that the game will also be available for standalone purchase through the PlayStation Store, giving players the option to experience the title without a subscription.

This move continues Bandai Namco’s gradual expansion into Sony’s premium subscription service, following recent additions such as Tekken 3. The company appears to be revisiting its extensive library of classic fighting titles, offering long-time fans an opportunity to revisit landmark entries while introducing them to a new generation of players through the PlayStation Plus ecosystem.

Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2005, Soulcalibur III stands as one of the most ambitious and feature-rich installments in the renowned fighting series. Developed by Project Soul and published by Namco, the game built upon its predecessors with a wealth of single-player content and gameplay refinements. It introduced several notable modes, including the story-driven Tales of Souls, the strategy-inspired Chronicles of the Sword, and a highly customizable Character Creation system that became a defining feature of the franchise.

An updated Arcade Edition was later released in 2006, refining various aspects of gameplay and balance. The return of Soulcalibur III through PlayStation Plus Classics not only enhances accessibility for modern audiences but also highlights Sony’s ongoing effort to preserve and celebrate gaming’s storied past through emulation and premium re-releases.

For long-time fans, the revival of Soulcalibur III represents both a nostalgic return and a sign that Bandai Namco may continue to bring more of its iconic fighting titles to modern platforms. With Tekken 3 and Soulcalibur III now confirmed for PS Plus Premium, it is clear that the publisher is embracing the growing demand for accessible retro content within Sony’s expanding digital catalog.
