A newly released console demo for Capcom’s upcoming science-fiction action-adventure game Pragmata is offering an early look at how the title performs across platforms, with results that vary notably between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Technical analysis points to a mix of strengths and compromises, particularly for Switch 2 and Xbox Series S, since the game targets 60 FPS across all consoles.
One of the more surprising observations concerns resolution and image quality between Switch 2 and Xbox Series S. The demo shows that Switch 2 renders Pragmata at a lower native resolution than Series S. Despite this, the upscaling solution on Nintendo’s hardware appears to produce cleaner results overall. Image reconstruction on Switch 2 is described as more effective, resulting in a presentation that can look sharper in motion compared to Series S.
Visual differences extend beyond resolution. Filtering and shadow quality are reported to be better on Switch 2 than on Xbox Series S, suggesting that Capcom has made different trade-offs on each platform. While Series S benefits from a higher internal resolution, Switch 2’s visual processing produces a more stable and cohesive image in certain scenes.
On PlayStation 5, players are offered two graphics modes. Performance mode reduces aspects of lighting quality and hair rendering, primarily to secure a 60fps target. Resolution mode retains higher visual settings, yet still manages to maintain 60fps most of the time, making the difference between the two modes less dramatic than in many other current-generation titles.
All console versions of the demo aim for 60 FPS, but real-world performance varies. Switch 2 is reported to struggle with maintaining the target frame rate during more demanding moments, such as scenes with heavier effects or increased on-screen activity. These dips suggest that optimization work may still be ongoing for Nintendo’s platform ahead of launch.
Pragmata is being developed and published by Capcom using the company’s RE Engine and represents its first entirely new intellectual property in several years. The game is set in a near-future dystopian world on a lunar research station and follows Hugh, a human wearing a spacesuit, and Diana, an android girl, as they attempt to find a way back to Earth.
Gameplay centers around a dual-protagonist system in which Diana supports Hugh by hacking enemies and environmental systems while Hugh handles firearm-based combat. This combination of action and tactical problem-solving is positioned as a core pillar of the experience.
Following multiple high-profile development delays, Pragmata is now scheduled to release on April 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2.
