This surge in sales is likely the result of the recently announced price hike for both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro, putting the latter at 899 US Dollars. As seen in the screenshot below, the mid-gen console is still available at the prior price 750 US Dollars.
A percentage of these buyers may happen to be scalpers looking to make a quick profit on the PS5 Pro once the price hike goes into effect on April 2, 2026. Others are likely those who have been on the fence about upgrading from the base console. With the massive popularity of the upcoming GTA VI, there are undoubtedly plenty of PlayStation fans who are upgrading early to avail the prior 750 US Dollar MSRP and be ready to experience the upcoming open-world action-adventure game on the most powerful current-gen console.
