PS5 Pro Review Embargo Revealed with Unboxing Date Set for November 4th

by Ali Haider

Sony’s anticipated PS5 Pro is confirmed for a November 7 launch, with embargo details shedding light on when fans can expect reviews and early impressions.

According to insider Tom Henderson, media reviews for the PS5 Pro will be published on November 6, while unboxing videos are set to go live by November 4. The console will offer significant hardware upgrades, most notably a more powerful GPU. The CPU retains the same architecture with a minor increase in clock speed, delivering an incremental performance boost.

The PS5 Pro’s GPU enhancement, moving from the original model’s 10+ teraflops (TFLOPs) to over 30 TFLOPs, represents the most substantial upgrade. This GPU power is expected to optimize game performance across a growing library of titles, which currently includes over 80 supported games, with more expected by launch. Although the PS5 Pro will be sold in a more compact packaging than the original PS5, it diverges in design by eliminating the built-in disc drive. Sony has opted to make the disc drive a separate add-on, available for purchase independently, which has sparked some debate among fans. Another point of contention is that the PS5 Pro does not support the current faceplates used on the PS5 and PS5 Slim models, limiting customization options for owners.

The PS5 Pro is priced at $699.99, making it $200 more expensive than the standard PS5 with a disc drive. This console serves as a mid-generation upgrade for those looking for improved graphical fidelity and performance in compatible games. One of its standout features is the upscaling solution known as PSSR or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This technology allows developers to upscale games that are rendered at lower internal resolutions to a higher resolution, such as 4K. While it is similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR, PSSR is specifically optimized to deliver better performance on the PS5 Pro.
