PS5 ROM Key Leak Tied to Disc-Based Exploit

by Ali Haider

Claims of leaked PlayStation 5 ROM keys are circulating online, with developers and community figures suggesting the discovery opens a new path toward jailbreaking consoles on firmware version 12.00. The exploit relies on a specific physical game disc rather than a digital copy, immediately limiting access and raising concerns about availability.

The leak centers on a disc-based entry point tied to Star Wars Racer Revenge. Reports indicate that a limited edition copy of the game is required, with the disc acting as the trigger for the exploit. This approach is described as distinct from earlier Lua-based methods and is explicitly stated to work only on disc-based PS5 systems. Digital-only PS5 models are not supported.

Gezine, a developer active in the console hacking scene, addressed the situation directly. In one post, they stated, “There will be battle royal for PS5 12.00 poops. Good luck getting it.” In a follow up message, they clarified, “Digital PS5 cannot attend battle royal.”

Further technical context was shared later, with Gezine stating, “mast1core based on disc game CUSA03474. This was the 12.00 dup exploit that was teased.” They added that the code will be released after further polishing. According to the same source, there are approximately 10,000 copies of the required game in circulation, with around 1,000 limited edition copies and roughly 8,500 regular editions. Gezine cautioned users against purchasing incorrect versions, noting, “Don’t be an idiot buying PS2 version lol.”

The requirement for a specific physical game has drawn mixed reactions within the community. Gezine acknowledged this directly, saying, “Yeah most people will not like the idea of requiring specific game. But that is what we have for now.” They also downplayed expectations for alternative exploit paths in the near future, stating, “Don’t expect BD-JB coming soon. April something is busted. Maybe webkit coming out will make more sense.”

The leak has been framed by some as a major security breach, with claims that PS5 ROM keys being exposed could enable jailbreaks at a very low level of the system. However, no public release of the exploit code has yet occurred.

As it stands, the information points to a highly specific and limited jailbreak method that depends on physical media scarcity. Until further details or code are released, the situation remains fluid, and users are being urged to approach the claims with caution.
