The recently discovered PS5 save data jailbreak exploit may be compatible with more than one game. Read ahead to see the full compatibility list.
According to a post from Twitter/X user DesignerLeake, who founded and documented the Star Wars Racer Revenge stack overflow, the recently surfaced PS5 jailbreak exploit may be achievable via other vulnerable PS2 titles that could potentially serve as alternative entry points.
The original hack involves Star Wars Racer Revenge and a disc-only vulnerability leveraged via mast1c0re, a save game exploit for the PS4 and PS5 that can be used to side-load PS2 games and apps. According to developer Gezine, the exploit is based on a specific disc version (CUSA03474) and only functions on disc-based PS5 consoles running firmware 12.00. Digital-only PS5 models are explicitly excluded, and the scarcity of compatible discs has already triggered concern and speculation within the community.
However, additional context shared by DesignerLeake suggests that Star Wars Racer Revenge may not be the only viable candidate. Reflecting on earlier research, they noted that they attempted to port mast1c0re to Star Wars Racer Revenge as early as 2023, ultimately choosing to document the bug rather than pursue a full implementation. This is in line with the list of known PS2 save data exploits, several of which are documented as unpatched and based on classic stack buffer overflow or stack-smashing vulnerabilities.
Potential PS5 Jailbreak Exploit Compatibility List
A tentative PS5 jailbreak exploit compatibility list can be seen below.
- LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
- Carol Vorderman’s Sudoku
- OKAGE: Shadow King
- GTA III
- GTA Vice City Stories
- Jak X: Combat Racing
Th above titles are all known to contain exploitable save data handling flaws. In many cases, these exploits allow attackers to overwrite stack memory using unchecked string lengths in player names, profiles, or record data, techniques used to achieve unsigned code execution on PS2, PSP, and even later platforms.
Some of these titles have already been demonstrated to work with mast1c0re-style chaining on PS4 and PS5, indicating that Star Wars Racer Revenge may simply be the first publicly confirmed PS5 12.00-compatible entry point.
