PS5 Slim Disc Drive Can Be Registered To Multiple Consoles
It has been revealed that the detachable disc drive that comes with the new slim version of the PS5 can be registered to multiple consoles.
In his latest video, YouTuber Tronicsfix has tested the new slim version of the PS5 and its ability to swap out its disc drive. In doing so, he confirmed that a single detachable disc drive can be registered or paired with more than one PS5 console.
This essentially means that if there are going to be multiple slim versions of the PS5 in a single household, a single disc drive can be swapped out and used to run disc-based software across both console. It’s a neat feature that ought to save money in certain use cases.
Recently, in its Q2 (July – September) Fiscal Year 2023 financial results, Sony Group Corporation shared that the PS5 has sold 4.9 million units in the quarter, bringing the console’s lifetime sales to a total of 46.6 million units. Additionally, developer Insomniac Games took to social media to reveal that sales of its latest open world superhero action game for the PS5, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, have exceeded 5 million copies as of October 30, 2023.
Sony had projected sales target of 25 million units for the PS5 over the course of Fiscal Year 2023. Sales during Q1 amounted to 3.3 million units, and now 4.9 million in Q2. The console will have to sell an additional 16.8 million units in Q3 and Q4 combined to meet Sony Group Corporation’s sales projection. Strong holiday sales will be crucial in reaching this target, and the release of major titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will play a key role in boosting the console’s sales. If the 5 million copies sales figure for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is any indication, things are looking promising for Sony’s current-gen console, especially with the arrival of a brand new hardware revision with the slim PS5 this month in November, 2023.
