A new feature update for the PS5 that prompts users to restart their console brings the PS1 boot up screen in celebration of the 30th PlayStation anniversary.
The new PS5 boot up screen is displayed exactly as it did back on the original PS1, and it is followed by another screen that shows the 30th PlayStation anniversary logo. As the home screen loads up, users are greeted with a new option to customize the background to have design and sound effects based on the PS1, PS2, PS3 or PS4 home screens.
In its corresponding message, Sony Interactive Entertainment highlights that December 3, 2024, marks the anniversary of the launch of 30 years ago. It is mentioned that, in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, for a limited time only, the console maker has added a few touches to take fans on a journey through the console brand’s history. The message further stated that users may celebrate with Sony Interactive Entertainment by selecting design from one of the previous generations of PlayStation. Additionally, those who aren’t interested in any of the nostalgic designs have the option to switch back to the standard PS5 design.
A total of five the PS5 designs are available for users to choose from, including 30th Anniversary, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
To celebrate the 30th PlayStation anniversary, Sony Interactive Entertainment also launched new limited edition designs for the PS5 and PS5 Pro that pay homage to the console brand’s history. Reminiscent of the very first PlayStation console to launch on December 3, 1994, this offering utilizes the original PlayStation color design and integrates it into the latest line of PS5 hardware products. The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection was released on November 21, 2024. There were 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle available for customers to purchase, with limited edition numbers etched onto the unit.
