The hardware specs for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s next-gen console, the PS6, have been finalized, according to a new rumor.
In a series of posts on the NeoGAF forums, known insider KeplerL2 confirmed that the hardware specs for the PlayStation 6 (PS6) have been finalized. Based on early details, Microsoft’s next-gen console, codenamed Xbox Magnus, is expected to have a clear performance advantage across the board.

A fellow forum member wondered whether the PS6 specs are still subject to change, as PlayStation architect had mentioned that the console’s development is currently in its “simulation” phase. KeplerL2 responded by saying that the specs are “very much finalized.” He also corroborated recent leaks from fellow hardware insider Moore’s Law Is Dead (MILD) on the PS6 and Xbox Magnus, stating that “both are accurate.”
Furthermore, KeplerL2 claimed that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming console will not be able to match Xbox Magnus in terms of specs, as it will have fewer CPU cores, lower CPU frequency, fewer Compute Units, fewer ROPs, lower GPU frequency, less cache and memory bandwidth. Additionally, they mentioned that the PS6 will come with 30 GB of RAM, its handheld variant will have 24 GB, while Xbox Magnus will feature 36 GB, giving Microsoft’s console an advantage in every area.
As such, KeplerL2 expects Xbox Magnus to outperform PlayStation 6 “in 100% of games,” unlike the current generation’s more even performance split. The insider also shared some details on the console’s AI and ML acceleration capabilities, claiming that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s next-gen console will reach around 1200 TOPs, though he noted that newer lower-precision data formats like FP4, FP6, and FP8 are more relevant than INT8 going forward.
Recently, the same insider claimed with conviction that a 2027 release for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s next-gen console is “not just on the table, it’s the plan unless any unexpected delays happen.”
