The PSVR2 was designed with PC connectivity in mind from the very beginning, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment.
In an interview with AV Watch, Sony Interactive Entertainment was asked why it decided to produce a PC adapter for PSVR2, whether PC connectivity was considered early on when designing the virtual reality headset, and if there will be any changes to the company’s VR plans for PS5 in the future.
Regarding PC connectivity, Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that it had made the PSVR2 compatible with the platform in order to provide its headset users who also play on a gaming PC an environment in which they can enjoy a wide range of VR content. In turn, the company expects this to broaden the scope of the VR experience with PSVR2.
Sony Interactive Entertainment further explained that the importance of PC connectivity was recognized by the PSVR2 development team, and PC connectivity was also taken into consideration during the headset’s initial design phase. When the PSVR2 launched, the development team first worked to optimize the VR experience for the PS5, and then accelerated development of PC compatibility from there onward.
As far as VR plans for the PS5 are concerned, Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that it continually focuses on maximizing the immersiveness of the gaming experience that PlayStation provides, and PSVR2 is one of the company’s key products for enhancing said immersiveness.
Early reviews of the PSVR2 experience on PC indicate some tracking issues that may be related to the placement of the PSVR2 PC adapter. One reviewer mentioned that using an extension cable to get the PC adapter closer to his playing area fixed his issues. The key idea is to have the adapter placed in front of the play area.
The PlayStation VR is now available for both PS5 and PC. The PC adapter retails for the price of 59.99 USD.
