Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will be among the very first games to take advantage of Nvidia RTX IO technology.
In an official post from Nvidia regarding the availability of Portal: Prelude RTX, the GPU manufacturer revealed that Nvidia RTX IO makes its debut alongside the free mod today, and will also be featured in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which is set to launch on July 26th.
Nvidia’s RTX IO will enable fast GPU-based loading and game asset decompression, massively accelerating IO performance compared to hard drives and traditional storage APIs. The technology leverages GPU decompression for smaller data packages, enabling faster texture load times and lower CPU utilization, giving developers the headroom to create games with highly detailed worlds.
What this essentially means for Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is that the game’s prominently featured portal transitions across different levels with entirely different assets will takes place seamlessly on supported Nvidia GPUs, courtesy of the DirectStorage API and RTX IO’s GPU-based decompression and parallel data access.
