A recent comparison between console versions of Ready or Not has revealed that the PlayStation 5 offers a better visual experience than its Xbox counterparts. Despite identical display modes across platforms, the PS5 appears to hold a clear lead in terms of overall image quality and rendering precision. Even the newly released PS5 Pro shows little to no substantial improvements over the base PS5, raising questions about optimization on Sony’s more powerful hardware.
All current-generation consoles feature two graphics modes for Ready or Not: Quality and Performance. Performance mode aims to maintain a stable 60 frames per second by scaling back resolution and reducing elements such as shadow fidelity, ambient occlusion, and environmental detail. On the Xbox Series X, however, these cutbacks appear more aggressive. Visual effects like shadows and ambient occlusion on the Series X’s Quality mode are comparable to what the PS5 offers in its Performance mode.
Further scrutiny reveals that the level of detail on the Xbox versions is consistently lower, particularly in Performance mode. The average resolution is also reportedly higher on PS5 in Quality mode, though it is worth noting that the Xbox Series X version maintains a higher resolution than the PS5 in Performance mode due to its reduced visual fidelity.
Interestingly, the Series S shows almost identical settings to the Series X, suggesting that development may have been led with the less powerful platform in mind. This design choice may have limited the visual potential of the more capable consoles, particularly the Series X.
The PS5 Pro, expected to showcase clear technical advantages, instead demonstrates no meaningful improvement over the standard PS5 in this title. Whether this is a result of developer constraints or incomplete support remains unclear.
Ready or Not, developed by Ireland-based VOID Interactive, is a tactical first-person shooter that puts players in control of an elite police SWAT team navigating high-stakes scenarios in the fictional city of Los Sueños. The game initially launched in early access on Steam in December 2021 before receiving a full release in December 2023. It finally made its way to consoles on July 15, 2025, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
