by Salal Awan

Reanimal has received an M18 rating from the Infocomm Media Development Authority, revealing extensive details about the mature content players will encounter in the upcoming horror adventure platformer.

According to the IMDA rating information, Reanimal is classified M18 for violence. The game centers on two siblings trapped on a dark island, where they must survive encounters with disturbing beings in order to rescue their missing friends and escape.

Reanimal is played from a side-scrolling perspective, with players controlling one protagonist at a time as they navigate dim and decaying environments such as sewers, tunnels, buildings, rooms, and streets. Exploration can take place on foot or through the use of vehicles and boats. Progression is driven by puzzle-solving, with players manipulating objects like switches and keys to access new areas while avoiding environmental hazards. Dialogue scenes are used throughout the experience to advance the narrative.

Combat options include both direct confrontation and evasion. The player character can use weapons such as guns, cannons, rocket launchers, knives, and crowbars to attack humanoid and creature-like enemies, or attempt to flee from encounters. The rating summary notes that guts, body parts, and corpses can be found during exploration, accompanied by ominous sound effects and a sustained sense of threat.

The IMDA description outlines several intense depictions of violence. These include characters having their heads bitten off, a person shooting himself in the head resulting in decapitation, and individuals being blown apart with entrails visible afterward. Other scenes involve characters being obliterated by gunfire, with blood splattering onto the ground. Under the M18 classification guidelines, such depictions of realistic violence, including killing, maiming, and causing serious injury to humanoid characters, are permitted.

The rating also mentions portrayals of nude bodies in non-sexual contexts, with no explicit details of nudity shown.

Reanimal is a cooperative survival horror adventure developed by Tarsier Studios, known for creating the Little Nightmares franchise, and published by THQ Nordic. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game follows two orphaned siblings as they traverse a fragmented, island-based world filled with mutated, animalistic entities. The title supports both single-player and cooperative play through a shared, directed camera system designed to enhance claustrophobia and tension.

Reanimal achieved gold status in December 2025 and is scheduled for worldwide release on February 13, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
