Fans of Rockstar Games’ open world action-adventure game, Red Dead Redemption 2, have discovered a mysterious Easter egg that has gone unnoticed for 7 years.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has surprised its community with the discovery (via SynthPotato on Twitter/X) of a brand-new Easter egg that somehow escaped detection for nearly a decade. Despite the game being one of the most exhaustively analyzed open-world titles out there, this newly uncovered mystery shows that some secrets may continue to linger even after multiple datamines. To get a full rundown on the mystery, check out YouTuber Strange Man’s detailed video here. Credit goes to content creators Pariah87 and goldenplaysterraria, as well as Reddit user FL4VA-01, for being the first to ever discover the Easter egg.
In the Heartlands region, players noticed a strange spider symbol carved into a telegraph pole. The marking feels unusual on its own, but things get even more mysterious when the symbol is overlaid onto the in-game map. Doing so reveals eight separate telegraph poles arranged in a precise pattern across the region. Each of these poles features an eerie spider web and a feather attached to it, details subtle enough that most players would never think to interact with them. Shooting the feathers causes them to fall, indicating that the objects are intentionally interactive.
Following the pattern to its center leads to a tree wrapped in a massive spider web. Embedded within the web are the letter “N” and a drawing that resembles a telegraph pole, suggesting a directional clue. Heading directly north from the tree brings players to another specific pole, and shooting it reveals a hidden message carved beneath the wood. The message appears to instruct players to head west and count five additional poles.

Following the instructions and shooting the indicated pole uncovers what is, for now, the final known clue: a guitar symbol accompanied by the letters “NW.” This has sent players searching northwest, where the trail seems to point toward Fort Wallace. While the location does contain a few guitars, none have yet revealed any obvious interaction or significance, leaving the mystery unresolved as of writing.
The Easter egg wasn’t added to the game via a post-launch update, and has been there since the very beginning. Players have verified this via the console disc running on version 1.00. The fact that a massive spider web and a multi-step environmental puzzle went unnoticed for 7 years is both shocking and exhilarating.
