The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Rockstar Games’ open world action-adventure game, Red Dead Redemption, will run at the PC version’s Ultra setting preset,
The official trailer for the recently announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Red Dead Redemption has revealed that they will run at the PC version’s Ultra setting preset. As a result, both the grass and building LOD distance will receive major improvements over the other console versions.
Red Dead Redemption PS4 vs PS5 Comparison
A screenshot comparison (via Twitter/X user videotechuk_) between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Red Dead Redemption can be seen below.
The comparison highlights the improved grass and building LOD proximity on PS5. Additionally, the resolution of the world map has also been increased over that of the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption, giving it a much cleaner look, as seen in the clip below.
Along with remastered HUD assets, the current-gen console version of Red Dead Redemption reportedly features HDR support and runs at a native resolution of 4K (2160p) at a target frame rate of 60 fps.
Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are coming to Netflix, iOS, Android, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025. The PS5 version will be available as a free upgrade for PS4 owners. Players will be able to carry over their progress from the PS4 to the PS5.
Back in October, Jason Muck, former Senior Environment Artist at Rockstar Games, updated his ArtStation portfolio with screenshots taken from Red Dead Redemption during its early development stages. The images also include development workflow renders of in-game 3D models. More details here.
Red Dead Redemption was originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010. It serves as the follow-up to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver and is the second main entry in the Red Dead series. The game takes place in 1911, during the waning years of the American frontier, and centers on John Marston, a reformed outlaw forced to hunt down three former gang members after the government kidnaps his wife and son to ensure his cooperation.
