Sad Cat Studios and publisher Thunderful have announced that their upcoming action platformer, REPLACED, is now scheduled for release in spring 2026. The new launch window was shared on August 25 through a development update video, in which the studio outlined the current state of production and provided behind-the-scenes footage of the project.
The game, which blends cinematic platforming with pixel art aesthetics, has been in development for several years and was previously expected to arrive earlier. Game Director Yura Zhdanovich acknowledged the delay, stating in the video that production had taken longer than anticipated. According to Zhdanovich, the decision to extend development was made to ensure the game meets the team’s expectations for quality.
Set in an alternate version of 1980s America, REPLACED follows the story of R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body. The narrative explores themes of corruption and survival in Phoenix-City, a dystopian settlement affected by a catastrophic nuclear event. Players will encounter a society where organ trafficking and exploitation are commonplace, while engaging in free-flow combat and platforming sequences.
When it launches, REPLACED will be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The developers have not confirmed whether additional platforms are planned.
