Report Claims Sony Will No Longer Bring First Party Single Player Games to PC

Sony is reportedly shifting its platform strategy and will no longer release its major single-player PlayStation titles on PC, according to a new report from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier.

The report claims that Sony Group Corp. is returning to a stronger focus on console exclusivity for its internally developed story-driven games after several years of gradually expanding to the PC market. The information comes from people familiar with the company’s plans.

“Sony Group Corp. no longer plans to release its big PlayStation 5 games on PC, a major shift in strategy that sees the video-game maker returning to console exclusivity after six years of flirting with multi-platform releases, according to people familiar with the company’s plans.”

Under the reported strategy, multiplayer and live service titles will continue to launch across multiple platforms. Games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon are still expected to be released beyond PlayStation hardware.

However, internally developed single-player releases will remain tied to PlayStation 5. According to the report, titles including last year’s Ghost of Yotei and the upcoming action game Saros will stay exclusive to the console.

“Online games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still be released across multiple platforms, but single-player titles such as last year’s samurai hit Ghost of Yotei and the upcoming action game Saros will remain exclusive to PlayStation 5.”

Sources cited in the report also noted that Sony has already canceled plans to bring certain internally developed titles to PC. In particular, efforts to port Ghost of Yotei and other first-party projects were recently scrapped.

At the same time, the strategy does not apply to every game published by PlayStation. Titles developed externally but released under the PlayStation publishing label are still scheduled to arrive on PC this year.

“Two games made by external developers but published by PlayStation, Death Stranding 2 and the upcoming Kena: Scars of Kosmora, are still planned for release on PC this year.”

The report also cautions that Sony’s plans could still evolve. According to the sources, the company frequently reassesses its long-term strategy, meaning future decisions about PC releases may change depending on market conditions and industry trends.
